Massy Arts Society hiring a Community Arts Coordinator!
Massy Arts Society is a community hub dedicated to supporting the practices of Indigenous and over-excluded artists. Our programming is extensive in multiple forms: open talks, debates, book launches, art shows, performances, concerts, fairs, and many others.
The Community Arts Coordinator will be responsible for developing and building upon the Massy Voices Salon Series pilot project, and assisting in everyday activities at our art gallery in Vancouver’s Chinatown. The ideal candidate must be comfortable with public speaking, hosting events, and have interest in / experience with setting up exhibitions and events, recording and archiving shows, and assisting with researching grants and copywriting for communication purposes.
This position is perfect for students enrolled in, or previously graduated from, a publishing program, as well creative writing, visual arts, curatorial practices, or similar. Going back to school in the fall is not a requirement.

Duties, Functions and Responsibilities:
– Work with staff and Board to develop and enhance contacts within our identified communities.
– Assist in creating strategies for outreach and active community development.
– Coordinate between participating artists/authors and the community to ensure residents’ goals are met.
– Assist in setting up shows and events.
– Assist in recording and archiving of shows in our online archival system.
– Assist with researching grants and copywriting of event and gallery showing text
– Be comfortable with public speaking and hosting events

Communication: Communication refers to the skills needed to exchange thoughts and information with other people. This exchange can happen orally by speaking, listening and using non-verbal cues, such as body language or in writing. At work, people use communication skills to talk to customers, discuss products with suppliers, explain work procedures to co-workers, participate in virtual sales meetings with clients, and other activities that involve verbal or written exchanges.
Digital skills: Digital technology refers to the skills needed to understand and use digital systems, tools and applications, and to process digital information. At work, people use digital technology skills to input, access, analyze, organize, create and communicate information and ideas using computers, software, point-of-sale equipment, email, podcasts, web applications, smartphones and other digital devices.
Leadership: Leadership refers to a number of skills, including communication, relationship building, and the ability to delegate and traits such as honesty. At work, leadership skills are required when working in a team, demonstrating initiative, and taking responsibility for the completion of tasks that require multiple employees.
