DESCRIPTION:In Nłeʔkepmxcin — the language of the Nlaka’pamux First Nations — N’shaytkin means “a relation that has passed on\, or those that came before us.” Chris Bose’s new novella — incorporating elements of faux-memoir\, film script and storyboards as well as historical documents\, maps\, and pictograms — explores the failure of a mine tailings dam from five perspectives in BC’s interior. Set in and around the remote reserve of Nkemci’n outside Spences Bridge\, Bose’s interwoven narratives tackle the impact of colonialism\, environment disaster\, and indigenous mythology told with subtle humour and deft introspection. \nWritten by Chris Bose. Drawn by Chris and Jayda Bose. Edited by David McIntosh. Dramaturgy by DD Kugler. \nABOUT THE AUTHOR: \nChris Bose is a writer\, multi-disciplinary artist\, musician\, curator and filmmaker. He is Nlaka pamux/Secwepemc and currently spends his time in Kamloops\, BC. Bose works as a councillor for at risk youth\, and ran for Kamloops City Council in the last civic election. He is a published poet with Kegedonce Press. The drawings in N’shaytkin were created in combination with his daughter Jayda Bose. David McIntosh and Chris Bose previously collaborated on a series of stories tracing paths through the streets of Vancouver entitled Vancouver\, Crawling\, Weeping\, Betting (2014). \nABOUT THE EVENT: \nThis event is taking place on the unceded territories of the Musqueam\, Squamish and Tseil-Waututh Nations. \nThe event will take place in the upstairs gallery area of Massy Books (229 E Georgia St). The gallery is not currently wheelchair accessible. \nMassy Books is easily reachable by transit! Close to the 22\, 3\, 8 and 19 bus lines at Main and Georgia/Gore and Georgia. There is metered street parking along Georgia\, or lot parking at the Sun Wah Centre around the corner (268 Keefer).
